INTRODUCING OUR OTHER THERAPISTS TO HOLISTIC TOUCH

Each of these therapists are fully qualified within their own field of practice and are serious about their treatments. I believe that they also share my passion to provide first class customer service to all their clients.
They bring to Holistic Touch a series of therapies and treatments that complement what we already provide. This means that we can now offer a one stop approach to dealing with wide issues such as aches, pains, or those of an emotional or stress related nature.
We as a team are also committed to future training which constantly updates our skills and practices, and only acquiring new therapies that we trust and believe in not because they are fashionable at the moment.
I believe that with this team Holistic Touch can grow to become one of York’s centre of excellence in the field of complementary therapies.

SILVIA SCHROER

NEW FOR 2010

ACUPUNCTURE & HERBAL HEALING

Sylvia Schroer Lic. Ac.,MBAcC,Kanpo, PhD, BSc, MSc practices ACUPUNCTURE, and is a specialist in Japanese methods. Acupuncture is an effective treatment for many health complaints both physically and emotional issues can be treat.

Biographical details

I trained at the College of Traditional Acupuncture in Leamington Spa qualifying in 1991. Since then I have completed postgraduate studies in China, Japan, Vietnam, Holland as well as the UK. I studied psychology at University College London and complementary therapy studies at the University of Westminster. I have a PhD in health sciences from the Uniniversity of York.

I have worked in a wide range of clinical settings including complementary therapy clinics (Clapham Common Clinic, The Traditional Acupuncture Centre, The Natural Health Service), community projects (the Stress Project and Hoxton Health Group); charity funded projects (The Core Trust, and various HIV projects) and addiction projects (The Angel Drug Project) as well as corporate settings including the BBC.

I became more seriously involved with research in 2002 and moved to York in 2003 to work in the Health Sciences Department at the University of York. My research fellowship was from the Department of Health (NIHR), who funded my PhD studies as part of an initiative to develop research capacity in complementary medicine. A need for researchers with a clinical background in complementary medicine had been identified and the capacity building initiative was a response to this.

Acupuncture is being increasingly accepted, both by the medical establishment and the general public, as a reputable and safe way of treating a wide range of conditions. There are many different styles of practice. I am trained in five different approaches and am one of the only practitioners in the North of England to be qualified to offer Toyohari acupuncture. This gentle approach, which emphasises touch, was developed in Japan where acupuncture has been uniquely influenced by its four-hundred year old tradition of blind acupuncture practitioners.

A Toyohari acupuncture treatment is a calming and relaxing experience and aims to optimise your health and well-being. Correct diagnosis is vital. This is done by identifying imbalances - through visual observation, asking relevant questions, taking the pulse and gentle palpation of the abdomen and meridians or channels of ki or qi, which lie on the body's surface. Treatment involves the use of silver but also stainless steel fine needles which are placed on particular acupuncture points to affect the flow of ki. Rarely do the needles penetrate the skin, making this a pain-free treatment and one that is suitable for children.

No matter what your specific health problem, acupuncture can potentially be of benefit and is especially worth considering if conventional medicine has not helped.

I have had clinical success in working with people with many different types of health problem:
Mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.
Physical health problems that involve pain, eg arthritis, back pain, stiff neck and shoulders.
Chronic health problems particularly where the immune system is affected e.g. chronic fatigue, auto immune problems including Crohn's disease, and allergies such as hayfever.
Digestive problems such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Gynacological problems such as endometriosis, painful periods, irregular menstruation, and menopausal issues.
Male and female infertility.
Health problems of the elderly - I worked in a project for the over sixties for many years (The Hoxton Health Group).
Supporting people with cancer and serious illness.

Kanpo herbal medicine in York
Kanpo literally means 'way of the Chinese' in Japanese. Like acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine has evolved into different traditions and approaches. Kanpo is one of main methods of Chinese herbal medicine to be practiced in the world today.

Kanpo was developed in Japan where it is currently widely used. The herbs, which are based on traditional formulas that have been used for centuries, are convenient to take and have an excellent safety record.

Diagnosis is based on the identification of a 'sho' or pattern displayed by the patient. Unlike some other forms of Chinese herbal medicine, abdominal diagnosis plays a significant role, this involves looking at the persons abdomen and gently palpating certain areas. This extra information helps to build a more complete picture of the person's health status and imbalances.

“Really good, no sweating at all, in fact I've picked up on the walking again and I'm not sweating as much then either!! It's like having a handy man who actually fixes your life!!” K.S. (profuse sweating problem)

"I feel 100% better after our last session" L.M. (stress / recovery from illness)

“EFT really helped me overcome anxiety I had with driving. After a period of not having driven for many years, I became anxious and nervous and driving became very difficult for me. I decided to try EFT to help overcome this anxiety. I had known Sarah for a few years and trusted her judgement on this and her belief that EFT could help me.
After 3 sessions, I can confirm that it has been a great help to me not only with driving but by applying the technique for other areas of my life as well. I am now able to drive with confidence and the anxious feelings I had previously have gone. I now cope with difficult driving conditions much more easily”. M.W.

“Using EFT to work on the “emotional baggage” I’ve been carrying regarding my relationship with my ex-fiancé seems to have really helped me. I feel very much freed up.” N.W.

“I needed to make some big decisions in a number of areas in my life. I decided to give Sarah a call. Sarah totally changed my mind about coaching; I found our sessions unbelievably helpful.
I was going round and round with decisions and not getting anything done in many areas of my life. Sarah enabled me to focus and begin a process of greater clarity. I am finally at a point where I have moved on from the person who let things happen to them and have become a much more productive and disciplined individual and this is all thanks to you Sarah! I am so glad I let my scepticism go, the results have been amazing, thank you so much.” J.L.

“Sarah's coaching has helped me tremendously in many ways. She helped me to recognise my priorities and create an action plan for achieving my goals. With Sarah's guidance I have learnt to trust my intuition and to 'let go' of things which are not important or simply can't be changed. Sarah listened with patience and understanding and inspired me to find a clear path through a particularly stressful time. She has helped me achieve a peace of mind which has enabled me to become more productive and creative than I was previously. Very satisfied thank you.” C.R.
